A number of workshops were conducted in September 2015 across India for TASL, Honeywell, Time Inc and for a bunch of young leaders in Coimbatore (a Shakti group initiative). A one day introductory session was conducted for members of the Aspen Indian Leadership Network. The net amount raised will be used for various projects in ProtoVillage such as developing a road leading to ProtoVillage, a carpark for visitors, developing pathways inside ProtoVillage, energy requirements through solar energy, a playground, water purification, for irrigation and soil building activities ( to help demonstrate and train villagers in chemical free farming).

Sensei David Dangerfield facilitated the TASL senior leadership team in selecting the core values that would represent the organisation. The exercise also drew out a plan to distill the values into everyday activities of the organisation and the behaviour of individuals.

Earthbag Construction

The money raised from the SL workshops conducted in May for TASL and Honeywell was used to complete the construction of the Visitor’s centre at ProtoVillage. A completely eco friendly design, the centre has been made from recycled bags filled with earth. The exterior finish has been with traditional lime mortar mix. The centre is designed to temporarily house the 10 resident members who are working on developing the prototype of a model village. It is also doubling up as an educational and information centre. It will eventually be the information dessimination centre, the office space as well as a shop which will sell the produce made in ProtoVillage. Thanks to Masood and Anant and Madhavi from Bead Studio, Koramangala who made this possible

Strategic Living workshop at HoneyWell, Bangalore. Games, exercises, laughter, paradigm changing perspectives and really deep insights all in a few hours. The workshop was extremely well received by the senior managers of HoneyWell.

Money raised from Strategic Living Workshop at McAfee goes to farmers

Self defence workshop conducted at McAfee by Sensei David Dangerfield. The money raised was used by ProtoVillage to provide drip irrigation to a farmer. Water savings of 45- 50% + increased yield = happy farmer, happier planet.

Session with Sensei David Dangerfield, our mentor, at Friends of Camphill (a residential community with adults in need of special care), Bannergatta Road. Sensei David has been kind enough to come all the way from Australia to fundraise for Protovillage. Sensei David, amongst many other things he does, runs an organisation in Australia , which is dedicated to providing real futures for people with disabilities.

Part #2 – Bangalore, Goa, Batu Ferringhi

Thank you to Anant, Suresh, Pooja, Anshuman and the 27 participants in the Honeywell Corporate training day. It was my privilege and pleasure to present the Strategic Living workshop at the Bangalore headquarters over 6 hours today. I very much look forward to future opportunities to work together again with such a progressive company and such open minded people. Thank you.

Ok… So it wasn’t ALL work today

The sun goes down in the west and the moon rises in the east. The magic of the west coast of India…

Just another boring night out with the TATA Advanced Systems team

Oh no… Not another sunset over the Arabian Sea. But I guess someone has to watch it…

I got a little bored so decided to open my own Airway / Travel company while in Goa..

It’s been my absolute privilege to spend the past three days with this great team. A huge thank you to Masood and all the members of the TATA Advanced Systems team for their generosity and open mindedness. I believe this is the beginning of what will prove to be a lasting & extremely beneficial partnership… And many strong friendships. Thank you all!

My great thanks to Sumeet, Kalyan and Shobitha for all their loving care and kindness during my travels in India. I can’t thank you enough but look forward to the opportunity to reciprocate in the future. See you all again soon!

Part 1 – David’s Adventures in India & Malaysia

Part #1 – Proto Village, Tekaludu, Puttaparthi and Sai Baba Ashram

Proto Village is coming up out of the ground… Literally. The visitor centre is being constructed of earth packed into bags and will then be rendered. The roof is being thatched from grass grown on site. There is a single solar cell that then provides electricity. Congratulation to the PV team on a great effort!

Self defense class with young men at Proto Village and presenting a motivational session focusing on martial concepts, the power of cooperation and achieving dreams at Proto Village.

A series of three ponds created on Proto Village. Water is pumped from the bore 200 feet down by a solar pump into pond 1. Then overflow to pond two where fish will be put & above which will be housed the chickens. Overflows to pond 3 from which the enriched water will be pumped around the farm via porous pipes buried beneath the surface. Very clever system.

More solar technology – the solar cooker (place a large wok in the middle and wait a little while for lunch to cook… and the solar array that power the solar pump bringing up the bore water & powering the irrigation.

Now that’s coconut water!! Arriving in Puttaparthi we were very thirsty…

Lunch in Tekaludu at the home of Hari’s family

My sincere thanks to Charu Sinha-ji, Inspector General of Police in the State of Telangana for her assistance with accommodation and the guided tour of the amazing free Hospital in Puttaparthi, the unique experience in attending the Sai Baba Ashram and the beautiful Ashram farm. Thanks also to the officers who provided our escort throughout the day.

The most un-hospital like Hospital you’ll ever see… All medical attention is provided free to rich or poor using the most modern equipment available. The doctors and staff all are volunteers and the building was funded by the owner of the Hard Rock Cafe chain when he sold his business.

The Sai Baba Ashram farm – an oasis of calm….
